With so many modern superhero movies featuring multiple characters and overlapping stories, filmmakers have to work hard not to make their films feel crowded. Next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will also feature Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, plus a host of supporting characters from the wider DC universe. But the team behind the film are confident that it will have the right balance.
In an interview with Collider, producer Charles Roven explained that the two main heroes were very much the movie's focus. "I don't think that's an issue for this film at all," he said. "There's a reason it's called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and not Dawn of Justice: Batman v Superman. So you're gonna invest mostly in Batman and Superman and I think that you'll find other characters in there that you hopefully will want to see more of."
The producer also dropped some big hints about when fans could expect to see some more footage. "Honestly, you're going be seeing something very soon," he confirmed. "I don't know how you define soon but certainly before the end of the year, how about that?"
Finally, Roven was asked about how this movie would approach Batman, and how it would differ from the angle that Christopher Nolan took on his Dark Knight films. "The Dark Knight trilogy had no superheroes in it, none whatsoever," he said. "Very real, very grounded, but of this Earth.
"On Man of Steel we also tried to make things feel as real as possible, but we took you to Krypton. I think we've tried to follow that, so make it feel grounded but also otherworldly. So whatever we do with any of these characters we're gonna want them to be grounded, we're gonna want the science to feel real whether it's of this world or not of this world."
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will open on March 25, 2016. It stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Last week, a synopsis for the film was released - check it out here.
